  • The Smart Card Alliance has a very good diagram of the open payments credit card payment transaction flow. It shows the autjorization request flow between the merchant and the acquirer/processor, the autorization request flow between the acquirer and the payment brands, and the payment brand and the card issuer. The figure was donated by Booz Allen Hamilton for use in a Smart Card Alliance white paper on Transit and Retail Payments: Opportunities for Collaboration and Convergence

  • The December 2008 Australian Low Value Payments Roadmap (at page 6) produced by the Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA) has a "payment system topology" that seeks to provide a simple graphic representation of the various levels within the low value payment environment. The graphic is a highly simplified representation of reality and designed to help advance the discussion within the Roadmap. The Roadmap can be found at www.apca.com.au - please look for the link on the right hand sidebar of the home page.
