T-Mobile is offering its customers a free checking alternative.
The free smartphone service comes with a required prepaid Visa debit card, a smartphone app and access to a network of 42,000 ATMs, the company said in a Jan. 22 press release. The program is available to any consumer but offers most services for free to T-Mobile customers.
T-Mobile customers receive free withdrawals from the service’s network of ATMs and can make person-to-person funds transfers with other T-Mobile Visa debit card customers.
The service also includes a bill-payment option and personal check processing.
“Millions of Americans pay outrageous fees to check cashers, payday lenders and other predatory businesses – just for the right to use their own money. Mobile Money shifts the balance of power for T-Mobile customers and keeps more money in their pockets,” T-Mobile’s president and CEO, John Legere, said in a statement.
