Google Can Breathe Again: Wallet Security Breach Fixed
Google says the use of prepaid gift cards through its Google Wallet service is back online, multiple outlets are reporting.
A week ago, engineers at Zvelo developed a “Google Wallet Cracker” app that could break through Google Wallet’s encryption wall within seconds. The issue was particularly serious because it exposed users’ Google Wallet PIN numbers.
Today, Google has “restored the ability to issue new prepaid cards to the Wallet,” the company said via official release. Furthermore, the security breach seems to have spotlighted another latent issue with the Wallet’s security; Google says it also fixed a bug that allowed existing prepaid cards to be re-provisioned to other users.
Google is doing its best to blaze a new trail for the proliferation of NFC technology, but so far only owners of Samsung’s Nexus S 4G smartphone may use the innovation.
