Walter Paulsen on How Gift Cards Changed the Game

by Jonathan Summey, Executive Producer | PYMNTS.com

As a senior payment and prepaid payment executive with experience ranging from Fortune 500 companies to fast-growing start-ups, Walter Paulsen has driven innovation at the point-of-sale and gift cards.  In this audio interview, Paulsen discusses the challenges he faced launching what is now a commonly accepted form of payment.

Walter Paulsen has started, grown and reinvigorated businesses in the US as well as Asia. His latest experience was guiding CardFact from its inception to the successful sale to a larger company. At the time of the deal, CardFact was highly profitable, with blue chip customers like Shell Oil, Polo, CVS/pharmacy and Texas Roadhouse.

Prior to CardFact, part of the founding team at Blackhawk Network, and led the highly successful gift card mall business from inception to a dominant market position in over 5,000 grocery stores nationwide.

Currently a board advisor and consultant while I look to build another business with a great team. Interested in exploring opportunities at established companies focused on growth as well as start-ups.
