E-payments: Skyline's Plans to Transform

Name: Shai Stern

Title: CEO & Co-Chairman

Company: Skyline's DirectFED Payment Solution

What I’m working on now...building CheckAlt, our B2B e-payment system, which allows businesses to invoice their clients via e-mail and receive payment via e-check.

My crowning achievement is...personally, my family—I have six beautiful children and a lovely wife. Professionally, building the fastest growing EDGAR/financial print firm in the country (Vintage Filings) and selling it to PR Newswire.

Education…College dropout.

When I’m not working, I like to…be the best dad possible or, when I’m not being the best dad possible, I like to work.

My favorite payment factor is…e-checks!

I think the next big thing in payments is…CheckAlt, our e-check payment system for businesses, specializing in B2B transactions, with built-in e-mail invoicing. At NACHA PAYMENTS 2010, the consensus seemed to be that B2B ACH transactions would be the next major market as it is largely untapped. There is so much potential here to provide a great, useful service to businesses from mom-and-pops to larger corporations.

Cash is…almost as good as e-checks through CheckAlt.

Checks are…the cheapest form of payment. With the advent of Check 21, there is no expense for armored transport and there are no fees for receiving check payments as there are for credit card payments and wire transfers.

NFC will…help push mobile payment. Between NFC, payment apps, and mobile remote deposit, payment with my iPhone or my iPad will take over.

EMV will…sink or swim. The future of payments lies in check processing.

P2P is…is quite common, but B2B payments will become the force behind payment innovation. The ability to reduce back-office and operating expenses will push the industry to come up with better and better solutions. With CheckAlt, we’re trying to provide small businesses with a greener and more cost-effective accounts receivable process.

I’ve learned from my mentor…George Karfunkel, my co-chairman on Skyline’s DirectFED. I met George while working at AmStock Transfer, the business he founded.
