Ever felt like deep down inside, the ability to be an expert in donuts, jet ski rentals or oil changes was lurking, just waiting for someone to call it up to the surface? Good news: FourSquare is now offering anyone the opportunity to become and expert in, well anything.
As part of the roll-out of its new redesigned app which is now more about recommendations and steering potential customers than it is checking in and aspiring to become the mayor of Starbucks, FourSquare is pushing out an expertise feature.
One becomes an “expert” by gaining experience points within the app when leaving tips on venues and when others use click and save your tips. After users gain enough points, the system will officially label them an expert.
FourSquare reports that so far this is one the re-design most popular feature. What do experts get for this august distinction within a social media app turned commerce enabler? The glory and honor of being an expert, according to FourSquare’s blog.
“Once you’ve earned an expertise, we both mark your tips as coming from an expert (so the world knows), and make sure more people see them because they’re high quality,” the blog read.”And, when you’re looking for great things to do when you’re at a place, you can see which ones come from experts.”
