Number of E-Shopping Australians Quadruples In Three Years

Australians are quickly becoming strong online shoppers, with a recent report showing the number of people in that nation turning to mobile options quadrupled in size over the last three years.

Showing an increase of 448 percent since 2010, over 3.4 million, or roughly 41 percent of Australians over the age of 18, used mobile devices for some form of commercial service, the Australian Communications and Media Authority reported.

Increasing by 31 percent, people aged between 25 and 34 showed the most significant rise in m-commerce usage, with about 55 percent using mobile banking and shopping apps, according to marketingmag.com.au

But m-commerce popularity continues to remain with mobile banking. According to the ACMA report, over 85 percent of users turned to mobile devices for banking, as compared to the 57 percent who used it for shopping online.

But do the high statistics reflect a decline of consumers shopping on PC? Not really. While mobile commerce popularity among Australians is strongly growing, data on banking transactions tells a different story.

“The number of online banking transactions via a PC was 27 percentage points higher than that of banking transactions using mobiles,” the website reported.
