The now-infamous Target breach was a result of a point-of-sale malware attack, the has company now admitted.
During an interview with CNBC, Target CEO and chairman Gregg Steinhafel disclosed that the data thieves uploaded malware to the company’s POS system, allowing them to steal sensitive customer data.
“Clearly we are accountable and we are responsible,” Steinhafel remarked. “But we are going to come out at the end of this a better company and we are going to make significant changes.”
