Everlink Payment Services wants to help Canadian consumers pay in a convenient and secure method, and to do so they’ve debuted a new market trial for DebitWear — a contactless payment option that uses the technology found in EMV and NFC.
DebitWear taps into the technology of Interac Flash enabled debit cards where the payment card is embedded into a wearable option, like a wristband. According to the company, the payment option can be used anywhere Interac Flash payments are accepted. Everlink is currently working with credit unions to provide a silicone wristband to hold the Interac Flash card — the debit card that uses tap-and-go payment technology.
“Everlink’s DebitWear gives cardholders the choice to pay for smaller value items quickly and securely by simply ‘flashing’ their wristband over a contactless point-of-sale device that supports Interac Flash,” said Mark Ripplinger, CEO of Everlink. “DebitWear form factors are ideal for any situation where it may not be convenient to carry your wallet and pull out your debit card. This includes when you’re at the beach and need to buy more sunscreen or at a sporting or music event where you want to buy souvenirs and refreshments, but would prefer to leave your wallet securely locked away.”
Outside of the wristband and mini-tag payment option, Everlink said it is also looking into other contactless payment options. This includes reviewing options such as contactless-only stickers that can be applied to a mobile device.
“With DebitWear, cardholders continue to have the convenience of contactless payments, with all of the security and benefits of EMV, but without the need to insert a card and enter a PIN, which increases the speed and convenience without sacrificing security. DebitWear is simply the next evolution of the debit card,” Everlink wrote in a company news release.
