Heartland Payment Systems has announced its new Heartland Secure system, a data card security platform the company says will combine three separate solutions to offer restaurateurs protection against data fraud. At present, more than 11,500 restaurants across the U.S use Heartland Secure.
The company said the platform will offer end-to-end encryption and tokenization, as well as EMV security solutions to protect restaurateurs against card-present data fraud. Heartland will demonstrate the system at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago next week.
“Protecting customers is our No. 1 priority and our Heartland Secure solution will cover a restaurant’s payment card industry fines and fees in the case of a breach of card information,” said Robert Carr, Heartland’s CEO, according to the release. “The Heartland Secure technology that we pioneered materially reduces the opportunity for criminals to monetize encrypted card data. Restaurant operators with Heartland Secure-certified devices, who are processing with us, are fully protected by our comprehensive breach warranty.”
Heartland has said it will effectively remove card data from the transaction and this will circumvent POS intrusions. Proprietary tech will include Heartland Secure installations, which includes a warranty that protects restaurants from financial liability from a breach – so long as transactions are processed using the Heartland device. Heartland also offers Heartland Guest, which delivers services via an app including reservations and waiting lists. Other services offered includes Heartland Commerce, which enables payment processing, and Heartland Payroll, which offers a complete, customizable payroll processing and related tax-filing services for restaurant owners.
The latest push into restaurant tech follows Heartland’s POS acquisition of Xpient Solutions — a software solutions provider — which happened toward the end of 2014.
