A new four-week “hacker residency” program is set to start this fall in New York City by bitcoin research and development group Chaincode Labs.
The development training program, Coindesk reported on Monday (Aug. 8), will be aimed at helping participants to master the complexity of bitcoin related software in an environment that is designed to be more interactive and supportive than just learning online.
“You always hear a lot of people that want to contribute to the protocol, but find it to be really daunting,” bitcoin developer and Blockstream co-founder Matt Corallo told Coindesk.
“The motivation behind it is giving back to some extent and to improve the number and quality of people contributing to low-level protocol development in bitcoin,” he added.
The bitcoin ecosystem is known for its difficulties in onboarding new developers, which Corallo also said the development training program will seek to address.
“It’s certainly not a quick process. It can take quite a while to learn all of the implications of all the ins and outs,” he explained.
Organizers of the event confirmed participants will have access to a curriculum that includes discussions on bitcoin protocol and a growing lists of development projects to contribute to.
“It’s really about picking a project that gives you ample room to understand the space,” Corallo noted.
“Whatever people want to contribute to is fine, as long as it’s good for learning about bitcoin.”
