Cybersecurity firm BAE System and Fox-It are working with SWIFT to shore up the interbank messaging system that has recently become the target of hackers worldwide.
The jointly created Forensics and Customer Security Intelligence Team is reportedly designed to provide additional support and enhanced expertise as SWIFT pushed out its information sharing and threat intelligence program for its banking members.
Through the new program, SWIFT reports have gathered critical intel into the MO of the attackers in recent fraud cases, including the $81 billion heist of Bangladesh’s central bank. They have additionally moved to publish details of the malware used in said attack, as well as auxiliary indicators of compromise (IoCs) that can help customers spot breaches in progress before systems are critically breached.
“Customer intelligence, including intelligence related to attacks that have ultimately failed, is crucial to helping us continue protecting our community. Information we have already received from impacted banks has allowed us to identify new malware and to publish related IoCs which are helping to protect the wider community,” noted SWIFT CTO Craig Young.
