In the chilly January air, many consumers are opting to stay home and order in.
This month’s edition of PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps — where we rank restaurants’ smartphone apps based on information about their ordering features, their rewards programs, the size of the active membership base, and the amount of time users spend on the app and the number of active users — saw some leaders take a tumble, while others pulled ahead.
The Top Five
Domino’s Pizza held onto the crown, sitting tight at No. 1, no longer sharing the spot with the Dunkin’ app, which slipped down to second place, tied with last month’s third-place pick, Panera Bread.
The Starbucks app, which had sat comfortably at No. 2 for some time, slipped down to third place.
After eking into the top five last month, Pizza Hut continued to gain ground, reaching No. 4, and Burger King jumped a couple spots from No. 7 to No. 5.
The Top 10
Taco Bell didn’t fare quite so well — the chain fell from its streak at No. 4 down to No. 6.
Chick-fil-A, meanwhile, continued sliding down the ranking, this time to seventh place, right ahead of Chipotle and McDonald’s, which both fell from being tied at No. 7 to sharing their place at No. 8.
Papa John’s Pizza, for its part, fell from eighth place to join Sonic Drive-In at No. 9.
Closing out the top 10 was Wingstop, which careened down from sixth place to 10th — further proof that chickens’ wings don’t have much lift.
