Antitrust Fundraiser Raises More Than $500,000 For Biden

 |  August 25, 2020

The “Virtual Conversation on the Future of Antitrust” fundraiser that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).  Ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee, and Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), the chair of the House Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee,  headlined for Joe Biden, was held this monday. Monday

The Monday evening event brought in $537,000 even though Klobuchar had to cancel, POLITICO’s Cristiano Lima reports. “In his opening remarks, Cicilline called it a ‘major problem’ that the U.S. economy ‘works fine for a handful of dominant firms that have market caps in the trillions’ but not for smaller rivals. He added, ‘Joe Biden is the person to fix it.’”

— “Cicilline said he expects a Biden administration to ‘tackle market concentration’ and work with Congress to strengthen antitrust enforcement and promote labor-market competition. Providing ‘robust’ funding for antitrust enforcement agencies, he said, will be key toward achieving that. … Cicilline reiterated that he hopes the subcommittee will be able to report findings from its probe in early September, which he said ‘times perfectly with the incoming Biden administration.’”
