Colombia: President speaks in support of creating International Anticorruption Court

The President of Colombia, Iván Duque, addressed the Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) last Wednesday May 15, stressing that collusion between the State and private companies cannot be tolerated, and called for banning companies accused of bribes from signing new State contracts.

Duque reiterated his support for the proposal made by the United Nations (UN) to create a World Anti-Corruption Court, seeking to end the graft that affect transparency and effectiveness in bidding processes throughout the world, with the only sanction being monetary penalties.

Duque said it was necessary for Colombia to adopt a principle of prohibiting any company proven to have attempted to bribe a public servant to from signing new contracts with the State. The president invited ICN attendees to adopt this principle globally.
