US carrier Delta Airlines has been granted an appeal against the measures imposed by the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) on July 2017 to regulate the use of takeoff and landing infrastructure (known as “slots”) at Mexico City International Airport.
“A Specialized Court granted the protection to Delta Air Lines negating the resolution by COFECE, where we imposed various measures to reverse the inefficiencies and anti-competitive effects generated by the rules of access and administration of the infrastructure related to the takeoff and landing services of the AICM,” the regulator announced.
The measures determined by the COFECE included a bidding mechanism for flight slots, as well as a limit to the allocation of schedules to airlines with more than 35% of slots. COFECE has responded, urging the Ministry of Communications and Transportation to improve access to Slots infrastructure, thus generating greater possibility for competition.
