Colombia’s president Iván Duque has confirmed the appointment of attorney Andrés Barreto as head of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, whose mandate includes vital aspects for the economy, such as merger review and upholding the principles of free competition in the country.
“One of the most innovative processes that has occurred in the Colombian public administration is the process through which we want to assign a fixed period for some of the superintendencies that ensure the Colombians’ interests, one of them being Industry and Commerce, which is in charge not only of guaranteeing free and fair competition but also of protecting the rights of the consumers … it is one of the most important superintendencies the country has” said President Duque.
Barreto has been a lawyer for more than ten years, currently with the firm Moncada Abogados, and was the Legal Director, programming director and treasurer for Duque’s presidential campaign, as well as legal adviser to the president when he was a senator.
