French national railway operator SNFC has signed an agreement with the Comsa Rail group to acquire the entirety of shares in Spanish transport company Comsa Rail Transport, of which it already owned 25%.
With this agreement, Comsa Corporación will transfer all of its shares in its subsidiary, Comsa Rail Transport, the first private rail company in Spain, to the SNCF Logistics division.
The operation will have to be approved by the Spanish competition authority, the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC), and will not entail any change in the business model or strategy followed by the company, which will be renamed Captrain España. The company will continue to manage freight traffic by rail between Portugal and Spain alongside Portuguese partner Takargo. In this sense, SNCF will continue to ensure the growth of the company across the Iberian peninsula market.
The president of Comsa Corporación, Jorge Miarnau, has said he feels “proud” of “having created and contributed to the growth of the first railway company in Spain” and explained that “the new shareholder who takes over will allow its development to continue.”
