Argentina: Telecom absorbs Sofora, Nortel and Personal, moving forward with Cablevisión merger
Argentina’s General Inspectorate of Justice approved the absorption of the Sofora, Nortel and Personal telecommunications brands by parent Telecom, which will now be able to offer telephony, internet and data transmission products (quadruple Play), pending only the approval of the competition authority, the CNDC.
This step was taken by the companies involved after, on August 31, the Telecom and Cablevisión boards approved the merger process and the start of the corresponding administrative procedures before ENACOM and CNDC. The absorption of the companies was a necessary step, since Telecom’s corporate structure was considered so intricate the move was imposed as a necessary condition for approval by ENACOM.
At the end of June last year, Telecom announced the merger with Cablevisión, an operation that will create the largest internet operator and content broadcaster in the country.
