Eleven months have passed since Chile’s Tribunal for the Defense of Free Competition (TDLC) opened its investigation to assess the effects on the Chilean market of the trade agreements signed by LATAM Airlines with American Airlines and IAG, owner of European Airlines, Iberia and British Airways, to join forces in their operation of routes.
The dispute over the alliances that these airlines intend to complete continues to add new chapters after the Court ordered 18 airlines to provide, within 10 business days, information on the aviation industry, to and from Chile.
The court requested Avianca, Copa Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines for information regarding the routes used by passengers and the prices of each combination on flights between Chile and major cities in the United States, as well as Toronto.
In the case of Chilean airlines such as Sky Airline, Latin American Wings and JetSMART, they requested information about their operation on domestic flights, including the number of itineraries they serve within Chile, weekly frequency, average number of passengers on each itinerary and code agreements currently in force.
