Officials with Mexico’s General Directorate for Civilian Aeronautics (DGAC), the Aviation regulator, have announced that new guidelines will be published this month, introducing major changes to the procedures for assigning landing and take-off slots in Mexico’s most congested airports, such as the Mexico City airport and others.
The DGAC issued a first draft of their document, which will seek to increase transparency and efficiency in the way airport terminals and airlines operate. The move follows a resolution by competition regulators COFECE, which concluded that “the current procedure for accessing landing and take-off infrastructure at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) creates anticompetitive effects in air transport services.”
Among the new requirements expected, it will be mandatory for airports to publish all slot information on their website (including a list of available and reserved slots) as well as any cancellations happening 20 days prior to their use, or at any time in case the airline is not responsible for the change.
