US: Comcast asks court to drop Boston antitrust lawsuit

Lawyers for Comcast have asked a federal court to throw out WHDH’s lawsuit alleging the cable company’s decision to end the local station’s affiliation with NBC violates antitrust laws, according to the Boston Business Journal.

    WHDH filed suit against Comcast in March after NBCUniversal announced it would dissolve its connection with WHDH and begin a new affiliation with NECN in January 2017. WHDH said the switch will violate antitrust laws and breaks an agreement between Comcast, NBC and an NBC affiliates group, according to the Journal.

    Lawyers for Comcast counter that its partnership with NECN will increase competition, and that WHDH was never a party in the agreement the station claims has been violated.
