Bolivia’s Chamber of Beer Manufacturers (CABOFACE) put paid to concerns about possible negative consequences to the local industry as a result of the merger between the UK’s SABMiller and Brazilian-Belgian brewer AB InBev, declaring that “The repercussions for Bolivia as a result of the newly created association will be minor.”
“I don’t think Craft makers of beer have much to worry about. What we have to worry about is the smuggling of beer through Brazil and Argentina’s border, that really is killing us” said CABOFACE’s General Manager, Alfredo Candia.
“When SABMiller came to Bolivia with the Cordillera brand, into which it poured 30 million dollars, it had no effect” added Candia. Currently Cordillera is offered locally in Santa Cruz city and owned by Chilean brewer Compañía de Cervecerías Unidas (CCU).
