The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority recently announced an in-depth investigation into the banking services industry, but the watchdog shows no signs of slowing down now.
According to reports, the CMA is considering launching another investigation, this time into the legal services market.
The Legal Services Board released documents last week revealing meetings with CMA officials; the LSB said it was “clear that they [the CMA] are considering whether the legal services market should be a priority for their work in 2015.”
The Office of Fair Trade, which was replaced by the CMA earlier this year, released a report on the industry in 2001 that found issues of competition in the market and lead to legal reform. Now, reports say the CMA is considering a revisit of the industry; the LSB said it plans to meet with the watchdog again sometimes this month, and added that it will not discourage the authority from launching a probe.
