South Africa’s Competition Commission announced Sunday it has cleared the buyout of Independent News & Media SA by Sekunjalo Independent Media; the deal is set for finalization on August 15. According to repots, Sekunjalo confirmed the merger was subject to concessions, which include “boundaries between internal Public Investment Corporation managers of each media owner investment and separate director appointments” to assure that PIC, an institutional investor, does not appoint its representatives to any media owners’ board, according to Sekunjalo.
