UK: Former whiskey owner considers re-buying in Diageo, United Spirits sale

As the UK’s Office of Fair Trading is reportedly considering Diageo to sell its whiskey business Whyte & Mackay should it wish to continue with its buyout od United Spirits, reports say the former Whyte & Mackay owner is considering re-purchasing the brand

Vivian Imerman sold the whiskey company in 2007, but reports say he will likely be one of the bidders should the OFT go forward with its consideration.

Some analysts expect the sale to top more than $1.6 billion if a bidding war breaks out for the company.

Imerman is the first to publically confirm interest in the acquisition, though reports say Japan’s Suntory and US’s Bacardi are among interested bidders.
