UK: Rivals O2, Vodafone go head-to-head with 4G services

Reports say telecommunications rivals O2 and Vodafone plan to launch their high-speed 4G services on the same day, August 29, following EE’s 4G launch of its own last October. The companies are now launching the high-speed services following industry watchdog Ofcom’s 4G spectrum auction last February. Vodafone said the new services will be available to customers in London first, and will later expand to another 12 cities by 2013’s end. The company will announce full prices of service packages next week. The rivals are head-to-head in the competition, as O2 promised speeds 5 times faster than on 3G, while Vodafone promises speeds of up to 6 times faster than 3G.
