The European People’s Party appointed MEP David Casa as the party’s spokesperson for competition policy, according to reports. Specifically, Casa will stand as spokesman for the Employment and Social Affairs Committee’s Opinion on the Commission’s Annual Report on EU Competition Policy. The Commission’s annual report, which outlines 2012 activity, was published last May. Casa will now represent the EPP and its response to the report, as well as the Commission’s plans for the future. In an official statement, Casa highlighted the necessity of effective competition law, calling it “essential in preserving an open market economy.”
