Just one week after Diageo became the largest shareholder in beverage giant United Spirits, the company announced it will seek formal clearance with the UK’s Office of Fair Trading to control scotch giant Whyte & Mackay. Whyte & Mackay is owned by United Spirits; while Diageo confirmed its new plans, a spokesperson declined to elaborate. Diageo finalized its buyout of United, upping its stake in the company to 25.02 percent.
