US: 19 states enter debate of American, US Airways merger

Nineteen US states have joined the debate of the proposed merger between American Airlines and US Airways, a deal that would result in the world’s largest airline. The states’ attorneys general entered the federal review, currently being conducted by the Department of Justice, though further details of the states’ role in the review were not disclosed. The merger, which has earned much discussion since its announcement last February, took criticism by several Congressmen concerned the deal would reduce competition throughout the country, specifically at Reagan National Airport.
