Mayer Brown, the law firm originally counseling recording company EMI in its class action antitrust case concerning digital music, has been replaced by Munger, Tolles & Olson in what reports say is a major missed opportunity for Mayer Brown. According to court documents, the switch is the result of both EMI and Universal Music Group, which bought EMI last September, looking to have Munger Tolles represent EMI. The class action case was filed in 2006 and argues that joint ventures of music producers colluded to fix prices of music bought online. The class is made up of buyers of online music in the US.
