Ireland: Construction cos ditch plans to merge

Plans to merge between two Irish construction companies have reportedly been abandoned. According to reports, Lagan Cement and Quinn Building Products have ditched their deal after a joint statement announcing the two would part ways. Discussions of a merger first arose last December; Quinn’s chief executive made a statement of wanting to create an independent Irish cement producer. The two have reportedly decided against the deal so as to not have to go through the Competition Authority.
