The South African Competition Tribunal has confirmed a settlement with SA Airways (SAA). The airlines will pay R18 million to settle the Competition Commission’s charges regarding SAA’s roles in three separate cartels.
The first complaint, in 2006, alleged that SAA and seven other airlines fixed the prices of fuel and cargo surcharges. In 2008, SAA and three airlines were accused of fixing the prices and terms of tickets for prime cabins for routes between South Africa and Asia. A 2010 complaint also charges SAA with colluding with other airlines to fix passenger tickets.
