Experienced Economist Joins Cornerstone Research’s Brussels Team

Cornerstone Research, a prominent provider of economic and financial consulting services, has strengthened its competition team in Brussels with the addition of Dr. Norbert Maier as a principal. Dr. Maier brings with him a wealth of experience garnered from nearly two decades in the field, notably serving as an economist at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.

Dr. Maier’s extensive background encompasses various facets of antitrust and competition economics, with a particular focus on mergers, competition policy, and state aid. His tenure of six years within the Chief Economist’s Team at DG COMP saw him contribute to numerous high-profile mergers, including several Phase II investigations. His expertise spans diverse industries such as digital markets, energy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, airlines, food, insurance, media platforms, and retail.

In addition to his regulatory experience, Dr. Maier has a proven track record of leading economist teams in both consulting and regulatory environments. He has conducted comprehensive competition risk assessments, defined product and geographical markets, evaluated the impact of information exchange on prices, and analyzed bundling and alleged exclusionary conduct, among other areas.
