Apple announced on Monday its collaboration with Shutterstock to bolster its Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities. The tech giant disclosed plans to integrate Shutterstock’s vast repository, valued at up to $50 million, to train its AI models and enhance the performance of its devices.
According to reports from Apple Insider, the deal encompasses licensing millions of images, videos, and audio files from Shutterstock. This infusion of diverse content is aimed at advancing Apple’s AI large language models, with a particular focus on improving image recognition and editing functionalities on iPhones.
The potential benefits extend beyond just imagery. By leveraging Shutterstock’s extensive collection, iPhone users could experience enhancements in voice recognition and automatic transcription features.

Shutterstock’s data stock is well-recognized in the tech industry, with major players like Google, Amazon, and Meta Platforms already tapping into its resources to power their AI initiatives.
This strategic partnership comes amidst ongoing negotiations between Apple and various publishers, including Conde Nast IAC and NBC, to leverage their content for AI model training. These collaborative efforts underscore Apple’s proactive approach in harnessing diverse datasets to refine its AI algorithms.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, has been teasing enthusiasts on social media platforms about the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), hinting at “Absolutely Incredible” updates. With a spotlight on AI features, the event promises to showcase the latest advancements poised to elevate the Apple ecosystem.
