It looks like the IoT-savvy industry is one step closer to making the home from Disney Channel’s Smart House movie a reality. While there’s currently no hologram figure of Katey Sagal helping to manage everything, we may be one step closer with the latest partnership announcement.
Global solutions and services company IRI announced this week its partnership with smart kitchen commerce solutions company Freshub. Through this pairing, the companies are hoping to move the IoT-driven smart kitchen from fantasy to reality. At the core of this fusion, retailers will benefit via pertinent consumer information from both traditional and IoT sources of data.
IRI’s retail president, David Hoodis, commented in the announcement about how this partnership will impact the retail industry moving forward. He said, “This strategic alliance with Freshub will combine IRI’s unmatched consumer data assets and expertise in analytics with Freshub’s Smart Kitchen commerce data to present unprecedented new opportunities for marketers to better understand the shopping decisions consumers are making in their homes. Retail and CPG companies can more rapidly adapt to the demands of today’s connected consumers by offering effortless and efficient shopping experiences.”
Understanding today’s consumer is the ultimate challenge for retailers and marketers. From traditional shoppers who prefer in-store experiences to those who strictly order online and never leave the house, the ever-changing technology landscape may be leaving many retailers guessing about which strategic technology initiatives to move forward with at full force and which to leave alone.
Through IRI and Freshub’s partnership, both of its clients will be closer to achieving a better understanding of how today’s consumer works. It will also allow retailers to check in on the product-level health of items to figure out success rates for numbers of purchases.
