Ecuadorean market regulator SCPM has initiated an investigation over complaints presented by economic operators, reviewing the transfer of transmission rights for the Ecuadorian soccer championship.
The investigation was called due to the alleged irregularities in the process. On January 3rd the former presidential candidate, Abdalá Bucaram Pulley, began legal action against the president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), Carlos Villacís, over his signing of a contract for transmission rights of the Ecuadorian Championship with Uruguayan broadcaster GolTV.
Pulley said the FEF “hand-delivered” the contract to GolTV, owned by Paco Casal, who has been named by a witness at the FIFAGate trial in New York as a businessman “accustomed to giving bribes to soccer leaders” in the region.
The FEF publicly accepted the use of contract resources with GolTV, which, according to Bucaram, violated Article 282 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), and suggests that the Comptroller General of the State should intervene in this matter.
