Argentina: Senate approves changes to competition law

 |  April 24, 2018

The Argentine Senate has approved changes to the Law of Defense of Free Competition that is currently being passed around the country’s Congress. These changes will allow companies to denounce cases of collusion and monopolistic practices, in a first step towards a Leniency program.

The changes and modifications will now return to the Chamber of Deputies for final approval of changes made by the senators to the original text.

Likewise, the Senate approved the so-called “Compra Argentino” law, which seeks to strengthen national SMEs by raising the margin of difference to 15% in their favor when calculating bids for state purchasing processes, giving them preference over large multinationals or foreign companies.
