Dr. Guilherme Mendes Resende has been nominated as the new Chief Economist at Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), as announced by the country’s Official Gazette on July 23rd. The new Department Head holds a PhD. in Regional Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE) and has a Masters in Economics from the Minas Gerais Federal University.
Dr. Resende is a certified researcher with the Applied Economics Research Institute (IPEA) since 2004. He has previously been the Adjunct Director of the Urban and Environmental Regional Studies Directorate (DIRUR) between 2015 and 2016, and was also the Regional Studies Coordinator at the same institution. Dr. Resende has ample experience in the fields of quantitative methodology, Public Policy analysis and regional urban development, having published numerous articles in dedicated journals.
Dr. Mendes Resende will now be responsible for conducting Economic studies for the country’s competition regulator, thus forming the technical and scientific foundation for the agency’s operations.
