The top positions at Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) and the Superintendence of Associations (Sociedades) will be seeking new occupants, charged with important positions of authority over the inspection, surveillance and control of economic activities in the South American Nation. The SIC is in charge of detecting and preventing cartels, both public and private, having imposed up to 98 billion pesos (US$32.1 million) in fines this year alone.
The contest to seek the replacements for the current officials, Pablo Felipe Robledo (SIC) and Francisco Reyes (Sociedades) will be taking nominations until September 7, although both officials could also be ratified in their posts.
“At first glance, the announcement that opens the call does not exclude the possibility that in the end the president can ratify them in their positions. Although it is very healthy that they are not subject to changes in government, but can develop strategies over the years and continue their research” said academic Juan Fernando Córdoba, from Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of La Sabana.
