The $10.4 billion buyout of Kabel Deutschland Holding by telco giant Vodafone Group has been cleared by the European Commission, the regulator announced Friday.
In an emailed statement, the Commission said the merger does not raise competition concerns and found that “the activities of the merging parties were mainly complementary.”
Vodafone is seeking the Kabel Deutschland buyout to expand its operations in Internet and television services. Vodafone’s current business focuses mainly on mobile phone services.
Reports say that Vodafone, whose largest market is in Germany, will gain an additional 8.5 million households in the nation.
The merger raised a bit of controversy earlier this month as the Commission ruled against allowing German regulators to review the deal.
