Former FTC Policy Head Heads To TechFreedom

 |  August 25, 2021

TechFreedom announced that Bilal Sayyed is joining its ranks as a Senior Adjunct Fellow. Bilal Sayyed was most recently the Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The Office of Policy Planning assists the FTC in developing and implementing long-range competition and consumer protection policy initiatives and advises staff on cases raising new or complex policy and legal issues.

“I am very excited to join TechFreedom,” said Sayyed. “Sensible reform of the antitrust laws is warranted, but many current proposals are neither legally justified nor economically sensible. With TechFreedom, I will be able to continue to write and explore the continuing vitality of the antitrust laws to current and topical competition issues. In doing so, I will draw on the expertise of TechFreedom’s excellent existing team.”

Prior to his time at the FTC, Bilal was an attorney in private practice, representing clients in merger and non-merger matters before the FTC and Department of Justice, and in consumer protection matters before the FTC. Bilal also taught antitrust law as an adjunct professor at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University. Bilal was previously an attorney advisor for FTC Chairman Tim Muris (2001-2004).
