 |  May 17, 2023

On Wednesday, an administrative court in Italy announced the annulment of measures taken by the competition watchdog against Eni and Acea. The companies had been charged with improper pricing practices for gas and electricity.

The antitrust case was dropped by the TAR del Lazio court due to the inadequate legal basis for the action, reported Reuters.

The antitrust body in Italy has put a temporary stop to contracts signed between Aug. 10, 2022, and April 30, 2021, for seven companies that are currently under investigation. These contracts have allowed these companies to change their prices, which is considered a violation of a government decree that was issued in August of last year.

The firms involved were Enel, Hera, Edisonm A2A and France’s Engie.

The watchdog concluded its investigation into A2A and Hera, but continued the probe against Eni and Acea, who appealed to the administrative court.
