COFECE’s Board of Commissioners has approved the appointment of Sergio López Rodríguez as its new Technical Secretary, replacing Roberto Villareal Gonda effective as of January 1st.
The new Secretary graduated with honors from Mexico’s National Autonomous University School of Law, and has obtained different diplomas on economic competition, appeal judgments and criminal law. In 2001 he began working for the former Federal Competition Commission as an Assistant Director at the General Direction for Legal Affairs, subsequently he worked as Director, Deputy Director General and finally Director General of Litigation, an area within the Commission responsible for defending COFECE ́s acts before the Federal Judiciary Branch.
López Rodríguez has published several books and articles related with competition law and has participated in different national and international seminars on this matter.
The Commission’s Technical Secretariat is competent to support the diverse procedures prescribed within the Federal Economic Competition Law, its Regulatory Provisions, the Organizational Statute and other rules applicable to COFECE, such as mergers analyses ́ notified by economic agents; market studies, analyses and investigations on the competition conditions of markets; trial-like procedures for monopolistic practices, among others.
