Peru’s National Institute of Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) performed a joint operation on Sunday targeting various fuel pumps and service stations in Lima and eight other regions across the country.
The operation was carried out in order to verify whether the increase in fuel prices in recent weeks is due to the market’s dynamics or due to possible price-fixing collusion among station owners.
On the other hand, supervisors of the Osinergmin verified that the prices of fuels at the targeted establishments coincide with those registered by the ‘Facilito’ app, a mobile application that allows consumers from all over the country to locate the nearest service stations, with their respective prices; highlighting the cheapest offers.
