Peru’s competition and markets regulator, INDECOPI, has announced the release of its Market Studies Guide as part of the agency’s efforts at promoting free competition and the adoption of best practices in the country’s markets. Market studies are meant to study the regulatory framework, the structure of various markets and the behavior of consumers, companies and government bodies as they interact with one another.
“Through this analysis, competition authorities can determine whether a market is working correctly and, if not, to determine the causes and possible actions that can be taken to fix the problems” read INDECOPI’s release. Hebert Tassano Velaochaga, president of INDECOPI’s managing Board elaborated, calling the Guide an important tool for explaining interested parties about what market studies involve, why they are important an what the possible results might be.
The guide is a joint effort by the OECD, along with competition authorities from Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama. Markets to be studied will be selected by Indecopi.
