Regulators from the United States, European Union, and the United Kingdom have signed a joint statement to ensure effective competition in the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) sector, laying out principles aimed at protecting consumers and fostering innovation.

The landmark agreement comes at a time when generative AI technologies are rapidly advancing, creating significant opportunities for competition and growth. These include the encouragement of fair dealing practices, the prevention of exclusionary tactics that could disadvantage new market entrants and a more rigorous examination of investments and partnerships between established companies and newcomers.

The move signals a proactive stance by these major regulatory bodies to address the challenges and opportunities posed by AI technologies. By setting out these principles, the regulators aim to create a balanced environment where innovation can thrive while ensuring that consumers are protected from unfair practices.
