Russia: EU preps formal Gazprom complaint despite settlement talks

While the European Commission was reportedly in settlement talk with Russian gas giant Gazprom regarding its pricing practices, reports say the Commission confirmed it is actually working on a formal complaint to be sent to the company.

    The company had sent draft proposals to the Commission last month to provide information to regulators about concerns held by authorities, but European Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said Wednesday described issuing Gazprom a formal complaint is “Plan A” in the case.

    The Commission first launched an investigation against the firm last September, two years after conducting raids at the company’s offices.
