UK Seeks To Ban Remote Driving Tech Until New Regulations Can Be Created

An investigation from the Law Commission of England and Wales has found that remote driving of vehicles from abroad should be banned in the UK, reported The Guardian.

According to the report this technology allows for vehicles to be controlled remotely, potentially in public spaces. There is currently no UK law for a driver to be in the vehicle they are controlling.

This review was commissioned by the Department for Transport and the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and it found that there are several key topics that need to be thoroughly investigated with regards to the application of the technology.

Many problems with the technology were raised during the investigation that looked into how reliable the connection between the driver and the vehicle is. There were also issues raised over the future of cybersecurity in the UK.
