US: Comcast weighing subscriber dump for TWC merger

 |  March 3, 2014

Comcast is reportedly considering a divestiture of thousands of its cable subscribers as a method of earning approval for its possible acquisition of rival Time Warner Cable, according to sources.

Comcast is looking into offloading about three million customers to be spun-off into a new competitor. Reports say the plan hopes to appease the likely competition concerns headed its way.

Should such a divestiture occur, it would create the fourth-largest cable operator in terms of subscriptions, reports say. One source said Comcast has already received notice of companies interested in buying the assets.

Comcast sparked a flurry of debate when it announced plans to acquire its closest rival, a deal that would merge the nation’s number one and number two cable companies.
